🪷 The ‘Rudra Padam’ (footprint of Lord Rudra) is located beneath the ‘Vadaval’ banyan tree at the
Swetharanyeswarar Temple in Thiruvenkadu, near Sirkazhi in Mayiladuthurai district.

banyan tree at the Thiruvenkadu shrine.

🪷 Devotees believe that performing rituals such as *Thithi* and *Tharpanam* for one’s
ancestors here yields auspicious benefits for the family. Worshipping at this holy site
dispels sorrow and removes ancestral curses spanning twenty-one generations.
However, those who worship the *Rudra Padam* at Thiruvenkadu in the prescribed manner
receive three times the spiritual merit compared to worshipping in Kasi.

🪷 Just as the *Vishnu Padam* (footprint of Lord Vishnu) exists in Kashi, the
*Rudra Padam* (footprint of Lord Shiva) is found here beneath the *Vadaval* tree.
Similar to the *Atta Veeratta Sthalams* (eight sites of Lord Shiva’s heroic deeds),
Lord Shiva performed a heroic act here by vanquishing the demon Maruthuvasuran.

The Manikarnika Ghat here corresponds to the 64 bathing ghats found in Kasi.
